POSITION TITLE: Classroom Teacher

FLSA Status: Exempt

UNIT/ORGANIZATION: Anova Center for Education (ACE) School Program

REPORTS TO: ACE School Director

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position is primarily responsible for planning, structuring, implementing and evaluating the behavioral and educational components of their classroom. This position oversees the daily operations of their classroom and assumes responsibility for the design and implementation of IEP goals and objectives. This position supervises and offers guidance to classroom staff to ensure a positive and high quality teaching environment, and ensures compliance with agency policies and procedures and other appropriate regulations and standards.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work with and supervise subordinate staff. Ability to communicate effectively with students, subordinate staff, administrative staff, families, and integral professionals / agencies. Responsible for the educational programs for each student in assigned classroom including planning, organization and implementation of curriculum.  Ability to monitor and evaluate staff and student performance. Ability to write clear and concise IEPs and supporting reports presentable for related agencies, staff and Anova administration.  Promote cooperation and a feeling of teamwork among subordinate staff. Ability to listen to the concerns, suggestions, and complaints of students served and/or employees supervised.  Encourage an atmosphere conducive to helping students achieve their greatest potential in the least restrictive environment. Possesses an understanding of and the ability to provide physical management for students in crisis situations including the implementation of Crisis Intervention Management techniques.

This position may require:

Lifting, turning, bending, stooping and carrying students requiring physical support;

Frequent standing and sitting; standing for long periods; occasional running;

Performing physical management techniques including physical escort and restraint of students in accordance with Anova’s procedure for physical restraint;

Performing medical related procedures including tube feeding, catheterization, and other procedures provided under the supervision of administration.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA: Staff Management

Specific Duties:

  • Provide supervision, feedback, and direction to staff directly supervised, ensuring that job expectations are stated clearly and met.
  • Assume position’s responsibility for hiring, training and performance management for all staff positions directly supervised.
  • Provide Classroom Coordinator with supervision / oversight in the provision of their supervisory responsibilities.
  • Participate in development of, and monitor, professional goals for all staff directly supervised.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA: Administrative

Specific Duties:

  • Provide constructive input into the development and/or revision of ACE School Policies and Procedures. Solicit and coordinate input into recommendations from staff directly supervised.
  • Provide constructive input into staff and student orientation procedures.
  • Complete activities as required by the California Department of Education pursuant to maintaining certification as a non-public school.
  • Submit all administrative reports on a timely basis.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA: IEP Development and Implementation

Specific Duties:

  • Complete appropriate assessments for individual students as indicated, including State testing.
  • Design appropriate IEP goals and objectives for each student based on the relevant assessment information.
  • Develop corresponding lesson plans for all assigned students.
  • Produce all required reports within the appropriate timelines.  This shall include but not be limited to progress reports, assessment summaries and behavior plans.
  • Effectively present IEP goals and objectives at scheduled IEP meetings, team meetings, etc.
  • Implement IEP goals as written and supervise subordinate staff in their implementation.
  • Collect all necessary data and reporting information including attendance, progress with IEP goals, etc.
  • Maintain effective communication and follow-through with Anova Behavior Analyst assigned to classroom regarding targeted problem behaviors.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA: Curriculum Development and Revision

Specific duties:

  • Develop and/or acquire appropriate curriculum materials to implement the IEP goals written for each student.
  • Conduct planning activities to ensure program effectiveness and ongoing curricular improvements utilizing new and innovative curricular strategies, including the review of available materials and literature, research through the internet, site visits to other programs, and attendance at pertinent and approved professional organization meetings and presentations.
  • Possesses complete knowledge of California State Standards for education as it applies to assigned students, and assure that curriculum design and content is compatible with these standards.
  • Comply with all State and Federal Laws applicable to the delivery of the professional services rendered by a Non-Public school.

 

OTHER:

Complete other duties and assignments at the discretion of the Anova Management Team and under the direct supervision of the School Director.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: CA Special Education Teaching Credential, Substitute Permit/30-day (minimum)

Experience: At least two years of experience working with developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed students in an environment utilizing an Applied Behavior Analysis approach is required. Supervisory experience is strongly recommended.
