Anova Center for Education - ACE School
The Anova Center for Education, or ACE School, is a pioneer in the field of educating children with neurodevelopmental impairments, especially those with Asperger’s Syndrome, High Functioning Autism and Nonverbal Learning Disability. Upon enrollment at the ACE School, our students present with profound impairments in Social Cognition, (or 'Theory of Mind'), limiting their ability to "take the perspective" of others. Most are cognitively intact and quite expressive verbally, yet are frustrated by learning disabilities, sensory processing deficits, and pragmatic language delays. The combination of these conditions can lead to extreme difficulties learning in a typical educational setting, and often results in social, emotional and behavioral challenges. In fact, most ACE students have been unsuccessful in public school
environments and have been referred by local school districts unable to
serve them with their own resources. Our multidisciplinary team of teachers and clinicians produce an
Individualized Education Program (IEP) for each student with the goal
of providing intensive treatment for the shortest amount of time
necessary before assisting in their successful return to a public
school environment.
We are committed to advancing our students through a rich and highly personalized academic curriculum, while effectively treating their individual challenges so that each student in our care functions more successfully in a classroom environment, and in all facets of life. At ACE, we are dedicated to enabling each child to realize his or her potential, fulfill personal aspirations, and lead an overall higher quality of life.
ACE is more than a school...it is a unique educational model. This model was developed at Anova, and is referred to as the Anova Method of Education, (AME). AME extends far beyond standard school requirements and is anchored by multidisciplinary treatment involving the frequent and direct use of Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Positive Behavior Support in both clinic and classroom environments. Our highly qualified teachers instruct Kindergarten through 12th grades with individualized academic programs that meet state standards and utilize state adopted textbooks. ACE School programs are data driven, with measurable and observable goals for our students based on formal assessment. Goals are continually revised as each student progresses. We train all of our staff in Functional Analysis Assessment technology and Positive Behavior Intervention strategies, and incorporate these principles into our school-wide and individualized behavior programs.
Our professional therapists are employed directly by Anova and work with students in the classroom and specially designed clinic space to seamlessly integrate their treatment into the school curriculum. This integration of diagnostic and therapy services into academic instruction provides the holistic approach to education our students require to learn and grow.
At the ACE School, our students not only grow... they thrive. We hear time and again how children never wanted to go to school until they were enrolled at ACE. Over and over we witness our students learning, growing and developing in ways their parents had previously only imagined.
Here is what just one parent has to say: “Anova has changed our world. The opportunities that my son has at this school are so many. I have watched him gain confidence, make friends and keep them. I really can’t say enough about this school that is more than a school.”
ACE School Campuses
The ACE School currently operates campuses in three Northern California counties: Sonoma, Napa, and Marin.
Our flagship campus, ACE Santa Rosa, in Sonoma County, is an educational center with cafeteria, outdoor play area, and six dedicated classrooms serving kindergarten through 12th grade. ACE Santa Rosa also has an onsite comprehensive treatment center. Our Napa campus in American Canyon serves grades 5 through 12, and is designed for students who will benefit from access to public school students. With the opening of our Marin campus in the Fall of 2008, ACE educational opportunities extended to Marin, San Francisco and the East Bay. ACE Marin, located in San Rafael at Davidson Middle School, also serves grades 5 through 12.
“Since starting my child at the ACE School, I have had the delight of watching my son blossom both behaviorally and academically. What's more, his teacher has helped me with a system that applies the social skills he is learning at school to our home environment. I am amazed at the changes I have seen.”
—Mary, parent – 2nd grader
“My son has been at Anova for over 4 years now and I can't believe he is the same child or young man. He is happy...happy with who he is...and he has friends! He has come so far. I will never be able to thank Anova enough for helping him find happiness again. My son will become an Eagle Scout this year. I never thought that would happen. The staff at ACE is so outstanding; words just don't say enough. They realize each and every child has different needs and try to meet them one way or another. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
